Well it's 2012! And I realize I've been a little MIA since before I left my apartment in December. Unfortunately I don't think this post is going to be amazing but here's a little run down :)
I finished school! Yaay!
I got a job! Yaaaay!
I'm working for BBC America as a freelancer which is really super cool so far.
I'm in the apartment looking process and am currently crashing with a friend (an amazing, wonderful, I don't know how I deserve such a good friend)
I saw some shows last week that I'll talk about at some point.
I'm going to go see How to Succeed with Darren Criss this week. Squeeee!
So yes...my life is in transition right now so blog posts will be more sporadic than usual, but I'll try and update when I can. I'll do a major update after life settles down a bit.

I'm Graduating!
Well, it's finally happened. I finished my thesis and I've turned in all of my paperwork. I'm graduating! I should be getting my diploma in February ^_^
Other than that there isn't a whole lot of news. I've been packing up my room and moving the majority of my things to a storage unit to be dealt with later in January once I actually have an apartment.

I've had a couple of job interviews and am still waiting to hear back so we'll see how that goes. And pretty soon I'm going to a networking event at MTV for former interns, maybe something will come out of that?
Well anyway, that's about it. I leave for home on the 23rd and I'm super excited!!!

100!
So first of all, this is my 100th post on this blog! Woooo! Dance Party!
As you probably know by this point, I'm in the final stages of writing my masters thesis. I just got back my last draft with comments from my advisor so I need to sort through those before I can be completely done, but one thing I finished are my storyboards! I like the way they turned out so I thought I'd share them. If you don't know, for my thesis I designed a tv show based around ASL (American Sign Language) and the way I showcase the show in my paper is by including a script and storyboards of a sample episode. I forced my awesome friends to be the models for my storyboard since I can't draw, and I figured this would look better in the long run.
So without further ado....here they are!

David Archuleta
2 posts in one day?! What madness is this!?
Anyway, if you haven't read the thanksgiving post, the post directly below this one is new as well :)
So last night I ended up going to see David Archuleta in concert. Yes, the guy who came in second place in American Idol a few years ago. Let me explain how I ended up going. The Irving theatre and the Gramercy theatre (Irving is where I saw Darren Criss, Gramercy is where I saw Starkid), has a mailing list that they call "music geeks". And every Tuesday I get an emailed newsletter that has the upcoming events at both theatres. There are always also a list of 4 or 5 upcoming shows where they are giving away free tickets to the first person to email them back. So this last week I saw David Archuleta on the list and thought "I've heard of this guy...I guess I'll email and see if I can get tickets because I probably won't". Lo and behold, a few hours later I get an email saying that I've won two tickets!
So...I went! haha. The concert ended up being really really fun. The theatre had about half the amount of people as it did when I saw Darren Criss so it was a lot more of a relaxing atmosphere. And David Archuleta is really kind of adorable and really does have a great voice. What I didn't know going in, and made the concert that much more fun, is that it was mostly Christmas music! I think it must have been to help promote his new Christmas album or something. It really put me in the Christmas Spirit though :)
The pictures from this one aren't very good because all I had was my cell phone, but it should give you some idea.

Thanksgiving Weekend!
Well I'm about a week late in updating, but I've been working very diligently on my thesis and I've had a lot of work stuff to accomplish. But here is my Thanksgiving Update! (PS. It will be kind of long I'm sure) I think I'll break this post up by day since there is so much to say.
THURSDAY:
First of all: Thanksgiving Day. This marks the first Thanksgiving that I haven't spent with family, and the 2nd I've spent without my parents. Actually there was probably one Thanksgiving I spent in Colorado without family or my parents but I was in Colorado so it felt like home. But anyway, this year my friend Stacey came up from DC (partially to celebrate with me, but really just so we could see a concert that Sunday). One of the professors I work for invited me to her house for dinner, which was really sweet of her. So Stacey and I went and it was a very nice dinner :)
FRIDAY:
On Friday night we saw The Judy Show in order to preview it for my dad. It's this little off-broadway one woman show starring Judy Gold. She's a comedian and the show was basically her life as a Jewish-lesbian-mother of 2. She talked about all the sitcoms she loved growing up and how her life was or was not like them, and also how she still wanted to pitch her own sitcom about her life. I thought it was pretty funny because I got most of the tv show references. It kept me laughing during the show, but is not a show I'd go see again.
SATURDAY:
On Saturday we tried twice to get lottery tickets to The Book of Mormon, but to no avail. So instead we went to see the new Muppet movie! I thought it was super cute, but what can I say? I love the Muppets!!!
SUNDAY:
Now Sunday was an awesome, and I do mean an AWESOME day. Sunday was the day of the Starkid concert! Overall the concert was a blast and we had soooo much fun. It was a long tiring day though. Basically the show started at 4pm, the doors opened at 3pm for the general admission line, and opened at 2:30pm for the VIP line (which was us!). So we ended up getting in line about 2pm. The show itself didn't end up being over until 8pm!! Now for those of you who haven't done the math yet....that is 6 hours! Of standing! Needless to say we were exhausted after the concert but I still had such an amazing time.
I suppose I should say a bit about what Starkid is. It's a little hard to explain. Basically Darren Criss (who plays Blaine on Glee and who I'm slightly in love with haha) started this group with his friends at University of Michigan when they were in college. One of their first productions that rocketed them into stardom was A Very Potter Musical, which is basically a full length musical parody stage show that they filmed and then put on youtube. Unfortunately the sound quality is pretty bad, but it's a hysterical show and really cool because the whole thing was written, directed, acted, produced, choreographed, sung, etc by this group of college students! Now they have relocated their theatre group to Chicago and have since produced several other musicals that they also put on youtube. They are all super talented and I'm very impressed with them.
I think I'm going to describe the concert first and then I'll put all the pictures at the end of the post. So the first thing we did once we got to go inside is they lined us all up and gave us a poster, lanyard, and a program. Then we waited in line where all the Starkid folks were seated at a table and we could just go down the line getting them to sign our posters. It was awesome! They all seemed really cool and were honestly enjoying talking to fans. The other cool thing is that Darren Criss was there!! He wasn't actually supposed to be at the Sunday show, though he did appear at the 2 Sat shows and the 2 shows on Friday that were in Boston. Stacey and I were bummed when we couldn't get tickets to the Saturday show, but it didn't matter because we still got to see Darren Criss!!!
So I got my poster signed and then we went to stand by the stage. We were about 5 rows of people back, which was very very close and I could see (for the most part) really well. The first out was Charlene Kaye, who is a friend of theirs and is also working on her own records and music. She's really good actually. I preferred seeing her live than her music videos. But here's one of her music videos she did with Darren Criss if you're interested:
After Charlene Kaye, Darren Criss came out and performed a mini-set of just a couple of songs. That was fun because I was sooo much closer to the stage than when I saw him perform a few months ago. He is so talented.
After Darren Criss, came The Gregory Brothers. They became somewhat of a youtube sensation a couple years ago with their "autotune the news". Basically they took news clips and turned them into little songs. I never thought the youtube videos were all that exciting, but it was entertaining to hear them in person.
And then of course the main act came out, Starkid. They were phenomenal. The whole show was very clearly well planned and it was fun to hear all of the songs from their different shows. They were really funny as well. Basically the whole show was great even though by the time I got home all I wanted to do was curl up into a ball and sleep for 3 days :) Oh and of course we were surrounded on all sides by screaming fangirls with very high pitched voices. I think I'm too old for concerts like this haha ^_^
And now for the pictures!
And that was my awesome fun thanksgiving weekend with Stacey!

Anything Goes!
Last night I was able to see the musical Anything Goes on Broadway. It was AMAZING. It was so much fun and the cast was incredible! At first when I went I was really bummed because I realized Sutton Foster (who normally plays the lead role) is on a break right now and wasn't going to be in the show!! Now one of the reasons I wanted to see this show in the first place is because of her. So you can imagine my disappointment. I knew that this other woman was going to be in the show and I thought it was her understudy or something. Turns out, the actress who took over the role for the past couple weeks is Stephanie J. Block. Ok, I actually don't really know who she is but she was in Wicked as Elphaba for a while and has been in a number of other shows. She was completely and utterly fantastic!
So when you look at the video, most of the people I didn't get to see. But it's still fun to hear the music and see some of the dancing :)
Like I said the entire cast was incredible. Many of the actors that are in the preview videos and who I saw on the Tonys are no longer in the show, but the people who are in the show now, I just have one word....WOW. Joel Grey is still in the show from the original and he was just as amazing as I thought he'd be. He was the original Wizard in Wicked. He plays the funny mobster character and he was really funny and sooo talented. I was looking him up after the show and I found out some interesting facts about him. He is one of only 8 actors to have won both the Tony and Academy awards for the same role (the MC in Cabaret). Also he's 79 years old and still acting 8 nights a week onstage! Pretty cool!
Another surprise actor that was in this show is Kelly Bishop. I had no idea she had moved into this role and I am soooo glad I was able to see her! I know her best because she played the grandmother on the tv show Gilmore Girls. But what I never put together is that she is also the original Sheila character (and it's based on her life) in A Chorus Line. It turns out that this is the first time in 35 years (since Chorus Line) that she has appeared onstage in a musical. She's been in some plays and of course done a lot of movies and tv shows (you might also know her as the mother in Dirty Dancing), but this is her first musical since A Chorus Line. I was just truly amazed by that. And she was definitely totally awesome!
I found this clip when I was trying to find a clip of Kelly Bishop in her role in Anything Goes. This is from when she was in A Chorus Line and I thought it was fun. So enjoy!
Well that's about it for now. I got my draft of my thesis back with comments from my advisor and I've been thinking reaaaallly hard about working on it :). Hehe, no I'll work on it this weekend some more.
This upcoming week is my last week of my internship so I have mixed feelings about that. My friend from DC is coming up to celebrate Thanksgiving with me so that will be fun! We're also going to go see the Starkid concert (more on that later). Basically I have a lot of fun plans coming up! Yaay!

Thesis Update! and some other ramblings...
That's right folks, I actually have some news on my thesis!
And the update is........
Drumroll please........
I just turned in my second draft to my advisor! Woooooo! Oh, is that not as exciting as you thought it would be?
The point is, my thesis is going very well and I'm not going to think about it at all while I wait for feedback from my advisor. It is currently 29 pages (which includes references and the script to my sample TV episode). I'm sure I will add and change things depending on what kind of feedback I get back though I also know for sure that I'm still missing storyboards for my episode. I'm still not exactly sure how I'm going to do the storyboards because I can't draw. I had an idea that I would get my friends to pose as the characters and then I would photoshop in the correct backgrounds but I'm not sure if that will just be too difficult.
Random fact I recently figured out about myself:
Apparently when I can't think of an average girls' name I use the name Susan. One of the characters in my show is named Susan. Also, I recently went back through my computer's harddrive and found some old stories I had written from high school and college and I use the name Susan quite a bit. I honestly have no idea why. When I was little I remember my favorite name was Kimberly Rose. Whenever I was playing pretend with my friends I would use that name. And then, when I was in high school I actually met a girl who's name was Kimberly Rose. No joke.
Ok, one other random story and then I should probably start my day. So it is the month of November currently. One thing that happens in November (no I'm not thinking of No Shave November) is NaNoWriMo. This stands for National Novel Writing Month. It's basically a bet you make with yourself that you will write a 50,000 word novel in 1 month. When I was a freshman at Willamette I ended up completing this task. My novel was called "Memoirs of College Freshman" and it was basically a very stream of consciousness account of my life up until that points. I looked at it the other day and I reread a few parts of it. It's kind of cool actually because it's more or less a blog of my life. It reminded me of this blog actually. I'm so glad that I'm keeping this blog because it gives me a way to look back and this kind of momentous time in my life and I think my NaNoWriMo story works in a similar way. In both cases I was starting on a new adventure in my life.
Anyway, I thought I'd post the first little section here just for fun. If you would like to read any of the rest of it, let me know and I can send it :)

Memoirs of a College Freshman
November 2005
Forward (aka the part where I say why I’m even writing this)
As you can probably tell from the title, I am a college freshman. It’s a pretty obvious conclusion to come to under the circumstances. I wouldn’t think yourself to be a genius if all your basing that on is that you figured out the above. Just a thought. First off, lets talk a little bit about my nicknames. People pretty much call me three things. My high school friends call me Al or Allison, mostly Al though. On the other hand, all of my Fountain Valley friends call me Ali. This is because my friend Stacey started calling me Ali kind of randomly one day and then when she introduced me to all of her friends and acquaintances she introduced me as such. Most of my college friends call me Allison (well except for Noah who calls me Bubbles). Anyway, I’m a pretty average girl, short, shy, practically unnoticeable. Why a story about me of all people you ask. Why would anyone care about the life story of such a person? The truth is, probably no one. In fact, if you’d like the entire truth my life story is just as boring as the next person’s life story. I haven’t done anything fabulous, I haven’t found the cure for the common cold, I haven’t eaten the world’s biggest melon, I wasn’t valedictorian of my high school, I wasn’t the most popular or the most athletic (or even athletic at all). Basically, I’m a girl who’s just trying to live her life as best she can. I needed to write a 50,000 word novel, couldn’t find the creativity in me to write about something else, and so I decided to write about my life. It’s as simple as that. It is one of the only things I know of where I’m an expert, or at least as much of an expert that I can be. Besides, don’t people always say ‘write what you know’? Well, here’s something I know. And so I present to you: my life. (The author retains the right to have her story not be in any kind of exact chronological order or to even make sense at times.)

Seminar
So I totally forgot to mention the awesome play I saw last night!
I got to see Seminar with Alan Rickman! Seminar is a new play about this kind of out of work and slightly crazed writer who is teaching a writing workshop to 4 would-be fiction writers. It was a comedy and actually pretty funny. I'm still not sure if I got the deeper plots that were involved and there was a lot of poignant moments where I think you were supposed to think deeply about life and writing and reading and politics and whatever else in life. But for the most part it was enjoyable to watch and seeing Alan Rickman was amazing. He is such a good actor. I know this is kind of a bad explanation of the play, but it really is hard to explain. The point is that I enjoyed it. Oh and there was this really funny part towards the end where Alan Rickman chases another character all over the stage. That might have been one of my favorite parts. :)
Here is the video preview. It doesn't say a lot about what the show is about, but it's fun to listen to Alan Rickman talk ^_^

Happy November!
Welcome to November!
So I was randomly noticing that you can tell when I've had a busy/stressful month by the number of times I post in my blog in any given month. I realized I only had 3 posts in October, and I was really super busy, but for the most part I average about 5 posts per month. Of course then there was April which only had 2 posts...you can probably now see the trend in how busy I was that month. Anyway, I just thought it was a funny thing to notice.
This weekend my plan is thesis thesis thesis! I actually started working on it again this week and it's going pretty well. I had to basically rearrange everything I had in my first draft, but at least the information seemed solid even if it was in the wrong place. My advisor had a lot of good comments and so I'm currently working my way through those. As far as I can tell right now the two sections that need a lot of work are my Literature Review section and then of course the design section. The design section is really hard and really easy at the same time. It's easy because it doesn't involve a lot of research and citing of journal articles, but it's hard because I basically have to come up with a storyline and I still don't have an extremely strong grasp of who my characters are and what they are trying to accomplish.
But anyway, we'll see. I also had a visitor the last couple days which was really fun. Tanya, a friend of mine from Willamette crashed at my place while she was visiting the city on a class field trip and we got to catch up so that was awesome!
I'm also finishing up a video game study. There's a girl in my program (only working on her doctorate) and she's working on her dissertation research and I'm one of her participants! It's really fun so far. Basically I play a video game and then have to take surveys and talk about my experiences with it.
The other thing I'm now constantly doing is applying to jobs. My new routine is every day (or every other day) I have a list of television company websites and I go through and look at the new job postings to see if there is anything I'm qualified for and if I find something, I apply for it. I haven't heard back from any of the jobs yet, but at least it's a start and I'm trying!
And just because I like my blog posts to have some sort of visual element....I'm hosting a Flat Stanley for my cousin's 3rd grade class so I've been trying to take some pictures of him with various NYC landmarks. :)

Old Friends, New(ish) Cities, and Halloween! (Oh and Thesis Update)
So...two of the items in the post have really nothing to do with each other, but since it took me so long to post this, they are just going to all go in the same post.
Last weekend (not the one that is currently finishing up, but the previous one) I went to Washington DC for the weekend! I went down because my friend had a conference there and I wanted to go see her. I hadn't seen her in like 2 years! Now, this is kind of a big deal because we've known each other since we were 5 years old....that's 19 years! Crazy, right? Anyway, I also got to see my other friend who's going to law school there which was also fun. Somehow I didn't take any pictures with her though. But anyway, DC was very fun, I got in on Friday, spent Saturday doing some touristy stuff in DC, and left Sunday evening. On Saturday we walked alll over! We went to the museum of natural history, the museum of the american indian, and then pretty much walked the length of the mall and looked at the various monuments.
So that was DC. It was definitely a fun break.
Oh, I promised a Thesis update so I'll do that now. I successfully turned in the first draft of my thesis to my advisor (yay!) and she sent it back with comments. So far it is roughly 13 pages double spaced. I'm going back through it now and reorganizing some of the elements and figuring out what should go where and all of that. It's looking good though!
On another side note, it snowed here yesterday! It seems super early for snow, but the weather will do whatever it wants to do I suppose.
Last night I also went to a Halloween party for a little bit thrown by some friends which was fun. I didn't have a costume because I just didn't bother this year. I didn't have the time or the energy to organize a costume. But that's ok. I ended up just wearing a Halloween shirt I had and went for the "Halloween Chic" look.

I guess that's all for now. I'll try and update a little bit sooner next time :) Especially because I have some fun shows coming up I'm planning on seeing!
