MTV Commerical

I almost forgot!  So quite a while ago MTV was looking for some videos to seed their advertising campaign with so I obliged with the video of my spinning poi.  And they used it in their commercial!  So here is my 1 second of fame.  yes...it's only 1 second haha.  It's at about the 15second mark in the video :)

****UPDATE  So I think the video has been taken down and I didn't think to copy it so it might be lost forever.  Sad day :(

TV Adventure!

On Saturday I went with a friend and we had an amazing adventure to see the spots where real life buildings in New York City were used as establishing shots in TV shows.  We were able to find buildings from the following shows: Friends, Will & Grace, The Cosby Show, and The Nanny.  It was a long day but very exciting :)  And here is our day pictorially because after all, pictures are worth a thousand words.

I'm pumped and ready to go!
This is in Greenwich Village.  I just thought it looked like a cool restaurant.
This is the outside of the apartment from Friends!
It's on Bedford and Grove in Greenwich Village.
This is the Lucille Lortel Theatre where Joey supposedly performed one of his plays in Friends.
Another shot of the Lucille Lortel Theatre.  Which actually is currently running a play with Laurie Metcalf who was on Roseanne.
They have stars on the ground next to the theatre.  Get it?  The guy's last name is foote....and that's my foot....hahahahaha
This is the outside of the Huxtable's house from The Cosby Show.  This is also in Greenwich Village.
Another shot of the Cosby Show house.
Now we've moved to Soho.  This is the Puck Building where Graces' office is supposed to be in Will & Grace.
This is the corner shot that is shown a lot in the show.
We wandered into the Scholastic store, which I had never been in before. This is what greeted us at the entrance...clearly this is the store for me.
They also had this display in the window inside.  I love this store!!!
The outside of the building.
We then stopped by NYU's campus and ate at the Chick-fil-A that is in their cafeteria there.  It is the only Chick-fil-A in all of New York!  It was delicious :)
Crumbs is a really really good cupcake bakery that we, of course, had to go into.
Mmmmm mini cupcakes for later...
This is the outside of Mr. Sheffield's house from The Nanny!  As you can probably tell from the picture...I was very excited to see this.  It's on the upper east side.
Our final stop, Will & Graces' apartment building which is actually only about 30 blocks from TC.  If anyone is curious...you can buy an apartment there for only 1.7million dollars!  What a steal.
And then of course we ended the day with cupcakes.  What a wonderful day :)

Another Weekend of Theatre!?

I know what you're thinking....me?....go see a lot of shows all in one weekend?  That is so not like me!  (Please note the dripping sarcasm).

Haha, so anyway the tail end of my Spring Break was spent hanging out with friends, finishing my flash midterm, and seeing several very awesome shows.  The first of which was....

American Idiot! This is a show made up entirely of songs from the band Green Day. It is definitely a rock concert type of musical. The show was really interesting in that the set and the way they staged the show was pretty cool. They had a lot of TVs all around the stage that had various images on them and they made use of flying harnesses during several songs. The show is 90minutes with no intermission...which is probably good because I don't think I could have taken more than that. Basically I enjoyed the show, I'm glad I saw it, but I don't have a need to see it a second time.

***WARNING****AMERICAN IDIOT VIDEO HAS ONE USE OF THE F WORD AND CERTAIN THEMES MAY BE UNSUITABLE FOR CHILDREN*******

So I went from seeing the rock show that is American Idiot on Saturday night to swinging the completely opposite direction and on Sunday I saw the Shakespeare play MacBeth.

MacBeth, or The Bard's Tale, or The Scottish Play, is a play I've never read or seen or really interacted with that much.  The only version I've ever seen was MacHomer that came to the Elsinore a few years ago.  It was basically the entire play of MacBeth but in Simpson's voices.  But anyway, this was an amazing production of the show.  The cast were amazing and it was a very traditional take on the story.  My friend had read it for her teaching Shakespeare class so she told me the plot on the way down to the theatre.  It is kind of funny...I think watching Shakespeare is one of the only times when you want to know the spoilers of what happens before you see it.

Now the next show didn't happen until Tuesday night but I still consider that as part of the weekend because I don't have classes on Mondays.  On Tuesday I saw Wonderland.

It was the 2nd night of previews for this new musical based on Alice in Wonderland.  Basically it's about this middle aged woman who's going through a divorce and living in NYC.  She takes the service elevator to the bottom of her apartment building and ends up in Wonderland full of familiar characters.  It was really good.  They had a couple of problems with mic issues and they didn't seem completely comfortable with the timing of the show, but I think considering it was only their 2nd performance they did quite well.  I think after they get everything figured out, which I think they will before opening night, they will definitely be in the running for the Tonys.  It was a really cute show and the vocals were awesome.  Especially the girl who played Alice's daughter Chloe.  She had an amazing voice and stage presence. Also I really liked the soundtrack for this show and I can't wait until they come out with the CD for it!

Back to real life

I'm headed back to NY today. I've had a really fun visit to Indiana and it was fun visiting with my grandparents and my cousin.  The first night I arrived (Sat) I got to go to a concert that my grandfather played in which was really fun.  It was a very good concert.  The concert was comprised of three pieces: Beethoven's Leonora Overture No. 3, Myaskovsky's Cell Concerto in C Minor, and Brahms' Symphony Number 1 in C Minor.  There was a guest celloist, Amit Peled who was very good as well.  I think my favorite piece was the Brahms though.

And...just a little bit of bragging on my grandfather.  I pulled this off of the website for the orchestra.

Here's me with my grandfather after the concert :)

The next day my grandmother and I did some cooking and made Chicken Paprikas (a Hungarian dish and one of my favorite meals). I made the dumplings from scratch and now that I've learned how hopefully I'll be able to make the chicken for myself.
Mmm delicious Chicken Paprikas and dumplings

I'm cooking!

The majority of the weekend was spent relaxing because as soon as I get back to school I have to start working on my many projects etc.

One last thing...we went to the mall and there was a goose in the parking lot! We were amused.

Funny Video

Today was my last day traveling up to the Bronx for research! So maybe I'll actually start getting enough sleep ^_^

My friend showed me this video and I think it's hilarious so I thought I'd share. It's all about how maybe sometimes we should be just a little bit more in awe of the technology we use on a daily basis. Especially given what I'm studying I think it's pretty relevant. Also I think watching it keeps me a little bit more grounded in reality :P

-Do whatever homework I still haven't finished
-Find time to upload the video we shot at the school in the morning in order to clear the cameras for Wednesday's session

Tuesdays: (Tuesday is my light day)
-Actually sleep in!
-Class from 3-5pm
-Do all my homework for my Wed classes

-(Every other Thurs) Class from 7-9pm

Fridays:

Which brings me to my weekends where I try to finish my homework for the next week while also trying to see friends and maybe see a show. I haven't actually gotten to see a show since I saw Billy Elliot, but Spring Break will change all of that :)

For the first part of Spring Break I'm going to visit my grandparents (on my mother's side) in Indiana from Sat - Tues and then I'll have one free day when I get back (Wed) and then Thurs/Friday I'll be interning still. Then on the weekend on Sat a bunch of friends and I are going to see American Idiot, and then on Monday I'm seeing MacBeth with a friend. Phew, it's going to be a packed week! But I'm looking forward to it :)

Speaking of my internship, I'm going to start posting links to things that I either created all myself or helped create!
Gigantic Photos
I chose all of these screenshots from the episode! And then as the episodes start to air, they will be posting clips and full episodes...which I picked out :)
Have I mentioned how much I'm loving my internship?  It has got to be one of the coolest things I've ever done :D

So I guess in conclusion even though sometimes I feel like I've gone crazy with the amount of stuff I have to do...it's worth it and I wouldn't change any of it for the world.  Ok, maybe I could do with a little less homework ;-)

On a final note.  Last week there was a discussion in the taxi on the way up to the Bronx about the best way to help the students formulate their final essay and what kind of structure to give them.  I mentioned that when I was in 4th or 5th grade I was in a Gifted and Talented program and one of the things they taught us was how to organize an essay using the hamburger method.  Aka...the top bun is the introduction, the patty and other assorted toppings are the body and the bottom bun is the conclusion.  It actually makes a lot of sense.  The top bun and bottom bun (the intro and conclusion) are fairly similar but not exactly the same and of course you need lots of details and good stuff in the body to make it a good hamburger.  So anyway the other people in the research group thought this was a really great way to introduce the essay concept so they ended up teaching the students and it became something they could refer to with the students as they were writing their final essays last week.  Anyway, I found that amusing :)

Alrighty, time to get my day started.  I'm actually fairly on top of my homework this week so hopefully today will be fairly low key.

And just for fun...here's a Glee video!
This was a commercial they made for during the Superbowl.  Is it bad that this makes me want a Chevy even though I know nothing else about the car?
