So as mentioned previously, Kachina and I went to see Hedwig and the Angry Inch starring Neil Patrick Harris. It was AMAZING. Neil Patrick Harris was amazing as were the rest of the cast. The songs were fun. The story was great, though slightly sadder than I was actually expecting it to be. For those that don't know, Hedwig is the story of a transgender woman who is also a performer and the show is her performance where she talks about her life and about how she got to that moment.
One of the funny jokes in the show is that this one night only event is re-using the stage from the show that appeared there previously which was "Hurt Locker, The Musical". They even had fake playbills lying around in the audience. I picked one up and after giving it a much thorough reading later, found it to be hysterical. There's jokes in there like the band Metallica was being credited against their will to help sell tickets after leaving after a 30min rehearsal. One of the stars is D'Bree Dazeem, younger sister to Adele Dazeem (the incorrect name that John Travolta called Idina Menzel at the Oscars last year). Apparently D'Bree got to go on because her sister Adele fell down a flight of stairs. Oh, and the musical is supposed to last 6 hours and 4 minutes.
The character Hedwig interacts with the audience a lot as well. It's definitely a show I wish I could see again, unfortunately it's completely sold out until the end of the run. After Neil Patrick Harris departs, Andrew Rannells will take up the roll which will also be exciting to see. I'd like to go again and see him in it as well.
Here's the clip from the Tonys this year. Man, what a performance!
Swinging gears to something less theatrical, but delicious, I went on a cupcake tour on Friday! Monica had given it to me for my birthday, but this was the first time we were both free to actually take the tour. It was so much fun! We learned about cupcakes, got to walk around union square and the west village and got to eat a lot of cupcakes and other sweets. Here's the run down on where we went!
1) Baked By Melissa - I love these cupcakes. They are tiny amazing drops of cupcake goodness. Luckily I already knew I loved them, because the flavor we got to try was Root Beer Float. I will give them this, it tastes exactly like root beer. For people who like root beer, this is amazing. For people who cannot stand the taste of root beer (like me!), it was disgusting. So there you go.
There was a brief interlude where we stopped in front of Crumbs. For those who may not know, Crumbs cupcake shops closed about 3 weeks ago. Workers came in one Monday and were informed they would not be re-opening ever again. We had a moment of silence for poor crumbs.
2) Amorino - This is actually a gelato place, to cleanse our palate we were informed. This is some of the most amazing gelato I've ever tasted. We got to try the mango flavor. It tasted like a real mango. Amazing! This is also apparently the only store that exists in the entire United States.
3) Molly's Cupcakes - Actually founded by a guy named John, Molly's was adorable and school themed. The tables were actually school desks as were the chairs and they had a lot of books and games sitting around. We got to design our own cupcake here so I chose red velvet cake with chocolate frosting, and put neon dinosaur sprinkles on top. Absolutely delicious!
4) Biscousciao - Again, not a cupcake stop but they sell macarons here. We got to try the Dark Chocolate Macaron, which, while very good and very very rich, wasn't my favorite. I just don't think I'll ever really get into the whole macaron craze.
5) Milk and Cookies - A surprising number of non-cupcake related stops on this tour. Milk and Cookies was adorable though and we got to try their Sea Salt Oat Cookie with white chocolate chips. While very good and soft, at this point I was pretty sugared up so only ate a bit and took the rest of the cookie home.
6) Magnolia Bakery - Our final stop at the original Magnolia's which, I learned, was named after the movie Steel Magnolias. Here we got to try their famous red velvet cupcake in miniature form. Super delicious!
All in all I think my favorite might have been the gelato but it was fun to get to walk to all of the different places. I'll definitely be returning!
And then, just for fun. Here are a couple of pictures of the Brooklyn Bridge that I took when Seth and I took a walk on the Manhattan Bridge on Friday night.

Adventures with Kachina (Part 2)
Saturday and Monday were more full days hanging out with Kachina! Sunday was our rest day as Kachina wandered off to visit some of her other friends that live in NYC.
On Saturday we got up early and headed out to Coney Island. Both amusement rides and the beach was in store. Then, after a short rest at home, Kachina and I headed out for a 10pm performance of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. The show was fabulous, but I'll talk about that in a separate post.
Needless to say, I was pretty exhausted by the time we got home after the show.
On Monday, I took the day off from work and Kachina and I went to Governor's Island. It used to be a military base but then they turned it into a public park. It was gorgeous there! You have to take a ferry to get across but then it's just a giant green island where you can walk around, they have different art installations, and mostly we just relaxed.
It was absolutely a BLAST having Kachina here! I hope I didn't wear her out too, too much ^_^

Adventures with Kachina! (Part 1)
My July is certainly a busy one. Not only did I do my quick last minute trip to DC, but now Kachina was visiting for about a week! We had so much fun and did so much that I'm sure Kachina will need a vacation from her vacation just to recover. It was made even more fun by the couple of vacation days I took so that we could run around even more! No rest for the NYC tourist.
The first order of business the first day (Thursday) was to wander down to the Sony Wonder Technology Lab. It's a free interactive museum that's mostly for kids, but we definitely had fun for an hour! There was a lot of hands on technology. My favorite part was at the beginning where you personalize your ID badge. It takes your picture and you tell it what your favorite color, song, etc is. Then at every new exhibit you swipe your card and it welcomes you, or flashes your picture. Supposedly you used to be able to log out at the end of the museum and it would print you a certificate of everything you saw, but apparently they don't do that anymore.
It was funny when we went to get tickets the woman said, very seriously, "I'm afraid the earliest time we have tickets for is 10:45. Is that ok?"....It was 10:30 when she said this. ^_^
After the Technology Lab we walked....and walked....and walked some more! We ended up nearby Kari's office and, after using bringing her ice cream as an excuse to come up, got to have a tour!
Friday I worked a half day and then met up again with Kachina for more adventures! First we went and were able to try on Google Glass. It's basically like a pair of glasses that has a tiny video screen above your eye. It's like a mobile computer! It was fun to get a demo because since they cost $1500 I doubt I will be owning one any time soon! After our tour we walked a bit of the Highline, then met up with Seth for a yummy dinner in Brooklyn. Seth took us on a tour of his apartment so we could show Kachina the great view from the roof.
Man, I'm tired just talking about all the things we did! That wraps up Thursday and Friday. Stay tuned for Saturday through Monday!

DC Adventure
There's nothing like a last minute, whirlwind trip to our nation's capitol! I went to visit my friend El before she leaves the area. We mostly just ate and hung out, but on Saturday I coerced her to go walking to some of the museums. We didn't spend a whole lot of time in each one, just enough to see a few things and move on to the next museum. We started at the Museum of American History, passed through the Castle (the oldest Smithsonian building), briefly walked through the Hirshhorn Museum, and ended with a run around the Air and Space Museum. I saw some interesting exhibits that I hadn't seen the last time I was at these museums, but mostly we ran around taking silly pictures as evidenced below.
And that was my whirlwind trip in pictures!
